Mobilising community and indigenous knowledge for transformative change
The UNESCO Chair CBRSRHE has always been focused on capacity building in the field of community-based research (CBR) in the Global South and the excluded North. Over the years, it was accomplished the same through South-South and North-South-South partnerships, leading-edge research, and policy advocacy in collaboration with various partners and networks.
During its second term (2016–2020) in particular, the Chair’s range of policy advocacy initiatives for CBR and the UN SDGs expanded significantly. This was also when the Knowledge for Change (K4C) Global Consortium for training in CBR and participatory action research was created. Consequently, the period saw more targeted research and capacity building programmes from the Chair. This period also saw deepening partnerships with key global networks such as the Global University Network for Innovation (GUNI), the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), the International Association for Universities (IAU), and the Talloires Network.
The Chair continued to promote its mission during its third term (2020–2024) by engaging in various policy consultations and discussions, thereby influencing the process of knowledge creation across the globe.
Among other projects and initiatives, the Chair’s plans for the fourth term (2024-2028) include deepening CBR, participatory action research and community-university engagement through policy advocacy for disseminating decolonised and indigenous knowledge.
