The National Education Policy, 2020, has outlined a framework for higher education that is transformative for the country. Engaging the community and being socially responsible in higher education is emerging as a new line of professional competence around the world. The UGC as a Subject Expert Group (UGC-SEG) as part of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) 2.0 has prepared the National Curriculum Framework and Guidelines for “Fostering Social Responsibility & Community Engagement in Higher Education Institution in India” which is also one of the verticals of UGC’s Quality Mandate i.e. Social & Industry Connect for every HEI. Trained Master Trainers will begin teaching this two-credit course next semester in their respective colleges and universities.

Master Trainers’ Training Programme on Capacity Building of Faculty for Community Based Participatory Research from Southern Zone began on April 27th, 2022 at the Gandhigram Rural Institute, Dindigul, Tamil Nadu. PRIA Founder President, Dr. Rajesh Tandon, who is the Co-Chair, UNESCO CBR and Social Responsibility in Higher Education as well as a member of the UGC Expert Group, was the facilitator in this program.
